Provides occupational therapy services to patients with multiple developmental, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular dysfunction, in accordance with established departmental and professional practice guidelines, standards and protocols. Performs evaluations, assigns occupational therapy diagnoses and designs and implements patient treatment programs and goals. Designs, fabricates and recommends orthotics and adaptive/assistive equipment, prepares discharge plans and home treatment programs and provides instruction to patients and families. Serves as a resource for area(s) of expertise and provides consultation to clinics and interdisciplinary staff.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Performs diagnostic evaluations upon referral by a physician. Verifies appropriateness of referral, contacting physician as necessary.
· Reviews patient medical history/record and selects, administers and interprets a broad range of standard and non‑standardized tests and measurements in order to assess patients' functional status.
· Develops and implements individualized patient treatment programs. Establishes treatment goals and priorities and administers appropriate occupational therapy procedures and modalities. Prepares discharge plans and home treatment programs and provides instruction and education to patients and families. Monitors treatment outcomes, modifying program as needed and communicating recommendations to physicians and other providers.
· Designs, fabricates and/or recommends orthotics and adaptive/assistive equipment for patients, in order to meet specific treatment objectives. Communicates with equipment designers and/or vendors regarding equipment specifications and patient needs. Trains patients, families and/or caretakers in use/operation of prescribed orthotics/equipment, monitors and evaluates effectiveness and initiates modifications as needed.
· Record assessments, diagnoses and treatment in patient medical record according to established documentation standards. Prepares reports, correspondence and other materials for schools, providers, insurance carriers and others as needed. Assigns standardized billing codes and corresponding charges required for reimbursement.
· Participates in research projects and conducts presentations at seminars and workshops. Serves as a resource in general pediatrics as well as area(s) of specialization.
· Participates in department/unit quality improvement program and assists in planning and organizing daily service operations.
· Establishes and maintains professional relationships with patients and families. Identifies patients'/families' specific needs and incorporates into patient care as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
· 2 – 3 years of related experience this includes at least 6 months of work as a certified and licensed Occupational Therapist
· Current certification by the National Board of Certified Occupational Therapy
· Massachusetts state licensure as an Occupational Therapist
